The SOVIA program connects students with real-world externships in clinics, community health centers, and outreach organizations — giving them a chance to apply their training while expanding care in underserved communities.

Externship Details

All HIGH programs include real-world externship experiences, connecting students to healthcare partners across Houston.

Externship sites include:

  • Community clinics
  • Hospitals
  • Public health outreach centers

     

Externships typically range from 100 to 160 hours and are structured to provide:

  • Direct patient care experience
  • Mentorship from licensed professionals
  • Exposure to underserved populations

     

This experience is essential for building confidence, cultural competence, and service-first healthcare values.
